Final pop-up of 2023! Newark Holiday Punk Rock Flea Market @ Aetna Banquet Hall is December 10th from Noon until 5PM. Early bird tickets are sold out but you can still get tickets at the door. Put together by our friends at Rainbow Records, International Groove Records, and Dusty Fingers, this should be an awesome event and hopefully will be something that is organized annually! Have had a few fun events lately including the pop-ups in November with the amazing multi-faceted musician and artist Jo Gamel for her art showcase in Philadelphia (you can catch her at GIFTED a new showcase at Crown of Creation in South Philly running until the 15th of January 2024 - visit the gallery at 518 S Fifth St.). Our friend John also curated his quarterly Philly Record Freak Out at PhilaMOCA which was packed and a lot of fun--!
For December, my first event was on Friday December 8th, 2023, with LES THE DJ and DJ LADY CROW at our friend Todd's amazing record shop INTERNATIONAL GROOVE RECORDS (located at 280 East Main Street, Suite #116 in Newark DE). If you are looking for off the charts music centering on musicians across the globe you will have reached your destination. Todd is as knowledgeable as they come and will suggest great titles to get you started if you are unsure.
Our friend LES THE DJ took time out of her busy travel, curation, and DJ schedule to drive to visit us (traveling from DC) after arriving only a day earlier from another record hunt and community outreach program in Kuala Lumpur. She has her own show on Eaton Radio (and elsewhere) and has been DJing for over 25 years! It was truly an honor to hang and be a part of this amazing lineup of women DJs. Les spun some amazing tracks last night that were both unforgettable and in some cases instantly recognizable--covers of 80s and 70s well-known pop and classic artists in different languages and styles that would absolutely blow your mind--if you missed it (you missed out)! Locally, DJ LADY CROW (our new friend AMY) was on deck to start the night off and I can't wait to hear more of her curated playlists and hope to see them again soon! Pictures from the event are below.
