Bette Bright And The Illuminations "Some Girls Have All The Luck" Single (1981)

Details: Used 7" record by England's Bette Bright (Bette also played or worked with Gruppo Sportivo, Deaf School, Sex Pistols, Madness and later, Tim Finn). She also appeared in the Malcolm McLaren Sex Pistols movie, "The Great Rock 'N' Roll Swindle." This cool single from her solo LP Rhythm Breaks The Ice also had multiple bizarre connections: (1) Some Girls Have All The Luck was later re-written and polished to be debuted as Some Guys Have All The Luck for Rod Stewart (2) On the album Rhythm Breaks The Ice, Shoorah Shoorah (an Allen Toussaint penned song) was originally sung by Soul and R&B singer Betty Wright, and (3) on the full-length where the single came from, there is also a Prince cover of When You Were Mine. If you are a Bette Bright fan, this single is as good a place to start as any and we would suggest also checking out the full-length this single is from, Rhythm Breaks The Ice. Single has obvious signs of ring wear on cover (see images), but the record itself is in lovely condition. 

Description: "Criminally underused in Deaf School, Bette Bright blossomed into an exciting performer on this solo effort, thanks partly to the help of clever friends. Rhythm Breaks the Ice was produced by fellow DS graduate Clive Langer and his partner, Alan Winstanley, the team behind Madness’ phenomenal success. (Bright intertwined the family trees by marrying that band’s singer, Graham McPherson, in 1981.) Here they balanced studio smarts with the need to emphasize Bright’s plaintive tones, and came up with a canny modern-day variation on Phil Spector. The full, smooth sound has a kaleidoscopic quality, continually shifting to highlight the key element in the arrangement — guitar, marimba or whatever — and providing Bright with a perfect launching pad for her soaring style."--Jon Young (Trouser Press)
