Gloria Lynne "Intimate Moments" LP (1965)
Details: Gloria Lynne's 16th studio album release of deftly performed deep grooves. This particular pressing of "Intimate Moments" was released on Fontana Records in Mono in 1965. Record is VG/G+ only with visible scuffs/scratches--there are some beautiful moments on this one. Light pops and clicks during play. Record cover shows a little ring wear (top/bottom) and shows wear along opening, edges, and corners. There are marks on the glossy cover front which looks nice otherwise (near title--see images). Most of Gloria Lynne's original master tapes were destroyed in the Universal fire in 2008, so finding her albums is always a charm as she is a divine jazz and soul vocalist. The official "Gloria Lynne Day" was proclaimed in New York City on July 25th, 1995.
Description: "This is a consistently engaging album recorded during a strong stretch in the career of this singer, who tends to pop in and out of the public eye. Here, Lynne has the services of a medium-sized orchestra, taped with the lush attention that such a production would have received in the mid-'60s (before this kind of recording artistry was lost forever). As far as material goes, the songstress has so much going for her. Then 'up-and-coming' composer, Van McCoy, created the title tune, which fits right into Lynne's range and gets the album off to a good start. She then starts laying out standards from one great songwriter or writing team to another, practically blowing the roof off with the heartfelt "Blame It On My Youth," by Oscar Levant. Only a few of the numbers here drag. The versions of "Everytime We Say Goodbye" and "My Ideal" are standards--each good enough to compare with recordings of songs performed by much more successful artists of the time."
"In 1996, Lynne received the International Women of Jazz Award, and she was honored with a Pioneer Award by the Rhythm and Blues Foundation in 1997. Other awards and recognitions include the National Treasure Award from the Seasoned Citizens Theatre Company (2003); induction into the National Black Sports and Entertainment Hall of Fame; Living Legend Award from the State of Pennsylvania (2007).[7] On May 6, 2008, Lynne was presented with a special award for "Outstanding Achievement In Jazz", at the New York MAC Awards. On October 22, 2010, she was honored at New York's Schomburg Library, for her many contributions to the music industry and the world by Great Women In Music and its founder Roz Nixon. Roz Nixon Entertainment worked successfully with Lynne throughout her final years, producing, co-producing, or participating in making the arrangements for Ms. Lynne's appearances pertaining to her last concerts or significant events."
